Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin is an English rock band compassed of Jimmy Page on the guitar, Robert Plant who plays the harmonica and does the vocals, John Paul Jones who plays a variety of instruments including the bass guitar, and John Bonham who rocks out on the drums. Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and pioneered the concept of album-oriented rock and thus did not release their popular songs as singles. The band broke up thirty years later with John Bonham’s death. Despite this significant amount of time since they were actively recording new music, they continue to be held in high regard for their musical achievements, prodigious influence, and tremendous commercial success. They are viewed as one of the pioneers of heavy metal/hard rock, but also drew from a wide variety of musical genres and are a truly transcendent band.

As mentioned above, Led Zeppelin was one of the more successful artists of the last thirty years. They have sold over 200 million albums worldwide, 111.5 million of which are certified units sold in the United States. Rolling Stone magazine has described Led Zeppelin as one of the heaviest bands to ever have been created. They also called them on of the most popular bands to keep on playing throughout history. In 1995 they were inducted into the United States Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Aerosmith vocalist Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry. They were described on that occasion as being just as influential as the Beatles (or as close as someone can come to being that). Led Zeppelin has won numerous awards including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (in 1995, the same year they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), the Q Merit Award in 1992, the Polar Music Prize in 1996, and a MOJO Award in 2008 for the best act to perform live. Led Zeppelin was inducted into the United Kingdom Music Hall of Fame in the year 2004. In the following year, Led Zeppelin was honored with an exclusive “International Artist Award” at the American Music Awards. They have the unique privilege of being one of three music acts in musical history to have gained four or more Diamond albums. The other two artists who have done that are Garth Brooks and The Beatles.

Led Zeppelin has also had a significant cultural significance with an influence on fashion, lifestyle, jewelry, and apparel. Many pop and rock artists have been long-time fans of wearing Led Zeppelin t-shirts, flared jeans, and other apparel made famous by them. One observer commented the blood, the sweat, and the tears of the concerts are weaved into the fabric of the clothing.
